Our statement on the 2025 election

Board | Published on 11/7/2025
On Election Night, Democrats around the country celebrated victories, but the results were disappointing here on Long Island. Despite the hard work of our members, volunteers, and candidates, we did not achieve the wins we hoped for in Nassau County and North Hempstead. Seth Koslow, Nicole Aloise, Wayne Wink,Joylette Williams, Dave Kerpen, Jason Lew, and all of our local candidates ran honest campaigns focused on issues and the desire to make life better for the residents of our town and county. They were met with deceitful fear-mongering from a Republican slate that preferred to run against the mayor-elect of New York City and on lies, not on their records or the issues facing our communities. Though it is disheartening to see such tactics rewarded with victory, we will not back down. It is an honor to volunteer for candidates who are brave enough to take on the Nassau County GOP machine and fight for all the people of Long Island. We thank each of our candidates for doing just that, and we congratulate our county legislator, Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, for her decisive win..

Around the country, the people spoke out loudly against the party of Donald Trump and his regime of cruelty, chaos, and corruption. They voted to uplift and support our neighbors living in fear and to reject mass deportations without due process. They voted to stand up for voting rights as Republicans try to gerrymander the lines and rig the midterms. They rejected illegal tariffs, budget impoundments, and boat-bombings. They expressed revulsion against attacks on health care and food assistance. We have faith that Long Islanders will join this groundswell for democracy, decency, and the rule of law, and we will keep working together toward that goal in the 2026 midterms and beyond.

To our members and all of the volunteers who made phone calls, knocked on doors, and showed up, rain or shine, in the early morning at the train station–thank you. Your dedication is second to none, and we are proud of the community we are building together. This week we will console each other, then we will get ready for the work ahead. If you feel disappointed, we urge you to join us and get active. Our party is a big tent, and so is our club; we are not focused on the labels that divide us, but the values that unite us. Whether you are a Democrat, an Independent, or someone who would have said you weren’t political until this year, if you are aligned with Democrats in this historical moment, we welcome you.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 12th, at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. Bring your ideas, your outrage, and your friends.
